The sound of water came from every direction: fat upon the window, a popgun off the bananas and the tin roof, lighter and messier on the patio stones,!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.

what does the meaning of "a popgun off the bananas"!? I know the meaning of popgun, but I've no idea about the above sentence!.

The writer is using metaphors to describe the different sounds the water made off of different objects!. So, it sounded "fat" hitting the windows (imagine rain drops hitting the window)!. It sounded like pops from a popgun hitting the skin of the bananas, etc!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Metaphors used to describe heaviness of the rain!.
Fat is dense and heavy, therefore the writer is saying that the rain was very heavy, the drops were large and fat!.
Popguns are loud, the writer is talking about how loud the rain was!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
