I mean, I don't like Twilight!. At all!. People keep saying that Meyer is a Thesaurus Rapist, and I'm not entirely sure what they mean!.
So, yeah, examples!? Please!?Www@QuestionHome@Com Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I'll give you one of my favorites!. It's from the fifth page, I think!. "But it was sure to be awkward with Charlie!. Neither of us was what anyone would call verbose, and I didn't know what there was to say regardless!." First of all, starting a paragraph with 'but'!? Bad idea!. Though that has nothing to do with a thesaurus, just poor writing!. Okay, so Bella-Sue claims she's not verbose, right!? Well, that's a lie!. The word SMeyer was looking for was "talkative", and using her thesaurus, she came up with "verbose", but they do not - repeat, do not - mean the same thing!. The fact that she uses "verbose" as a synonym for "talkative" goes to show that she is, in fact, verbose!.Www@QuestionHome@Com My favorite is Edward's eyes; nearly every chapter discusses how yellow they are, using a different entry that Meyer found under "yellow": Topaz, amber, yellow, ocher!.!.!. Mmm Cookies: Here's another thing that bugged me about the use of the word "verbose" when I read it: Would a 17-year-old really speak like that in the first place!? I thought the narrative voice was often inconsistant!.Www@QuestionHome@Com What's meant by that is she's using her thesaurus way too much!. Every single simple word is always replaced with a synonym that's complex (and sometimes irrelevant)!. Good vocabulary's essential, but over-use of that stuff is TOO MUCH!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Sorry, I couldn't give a specific example, since the book isn't within my reach right now!. :) But!.!.!.!.!. CHAGRIN, CHAGRIN, bloody CHAGRIN!. Meyer uses that more than 'embarassed' or 'disappointed'!.Www@QuestionHome@Com chagrin chagrin chagrin CHAGRIN CHAGRIN!. SHUT UP ALREADY WOMAN! WE GET IT! HE'S FEELING VERY CHAGRINED! SHEESH!Www@QuestionHome@Com Yeah I don't get that either!.Www@QuestionHome@Com |
