I would choose the D40x over the D40!. After much research that was the route I'd go but it depends on your budget!.

The D40 series (including D40x) is considered a semi pro camera but handles like a pro!. It offers may of the same bells and whistles that the pro level cameras employ at a fraction of the cost!. Depending on your desires for using the camera, Nikon offers software to synch the camera to your computer giving you a larger visual while taking pictures!. this is great for studio work!.

The D40 series also offers (seperately) remote usage!. A very worth while feature!.

As to quality, you will get great quality in either the D40 or D40x!. As mentioned before you won't want to blow up to poster size, but 8x10's and smaller print beautifully!.

I'm not sure about the D40 but the D40x allows for RAW files which is great if you plan to edit your photos using software!.

I would recommend doing a side by side compare of both and see what the differences are!. The D40 may only have the lower megapixels as the disadvantage and that is not really a big one!. You can make quality photos with anything above a 5mpx!.

Hope this helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have a Nikon D40 and I love it!. The D40 has a full manual mode, Flexible progam, aperature priority, shutter priority modes!. These are the same modes on all DSLR!. It also has several other programed modes for things like portrait, night, children etc!. As a photographer improves and learnds to use metering better these additional modes seldom get used so they are usually found on the more amature cameras and seen as not needed on the professional cameras!. I feel I have a fair amount of experience as a photographer and it performs well for me but I can give it to my 12 y/o grandson if set on program and he can get good usable pictures as well!. His photography is improving as he is already learning to use many of the functions himself ( yes I'm a proud granpa) !.

I also would not get caught up in the megapixel hype and instead look at the entire sensor issue!. Look at the article I linked below The D40 will do everything a beginner to intermediate photographer needs at a great price!. It comes with an 18-55 lens!. It will let you use any other money to buy more accessories!. And by the time you outgrow it cameras will have advanced to the point that most of what is on the market now would be obsolete!. I bought a D300 last year and only had a it a few months when the D700 came out!. The canon would also serve you well but I am a Nikon person so I suggest them!. I have friends that are very happy with thier canon's and take great photos!. You will have others that like Pentax and Olympus and they are not bad cameras but if they were in the same ballpark you would see many more professional photographers use them

The DSLR will have a much larger sensor than your point and shoot so a 6 mp DSLr will always give you the ability for a better photo over a 6 mp or even 10 mp point and shoot!. Larger sensor = more light to each pixel = better color saturatio, higher dyamic range, better geometric accuracy and less noise Www@QuestionHome@Com

From what I've seen on a forum I frequent and some of my flickr contacts, the D40 is a very capable camera indeed!. The 6Mp resolution isn't anything to worry about unless you plan on printing at poster size, in which case go for a D40X or D60!. 6Mp is probably fine for up to A3 size!. So if that's big enough, buy one and get on with enjoying it!.
The only issue with the cheaper Nikons is the lack of an auto focus motor!. This doesn't mean it won't auto focus, it's just that it doesn't have a motor that will drive the focusing mechanism in a lens so requires that a lens has it's own dedicated auto focus motor!. Only a problem if you think you'll want an arsenal of lenses and money is tight!. There are plenty of lenses available that do have the motor built in, it's just that they can be a little more expensive!. Make sure when buying a lens for it that it's fully compatible!. If buying from a store, no problem as you can try it out!. If buying online, just do your research!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's a great budget DSLR!. I currently own it, and it offers a wide range of controls and customization!.

Don't worry about the megapixels!. I was first skeptical at first, but once i got it, the quality is more than I expected!. The quality is way better than a 10MP point and shoot!. (wellbecauseitsapoint-and-shoot,ofcourse!.!.!.

Bottom line,
I would get it!.
Great begginer DSLR!.

To tell you the truth, yes!. I do believe that it is you!. And yes, you do have model potential, not high fashion, but actually great commercial value!. I know!.
All you have to do is contact a local agency and they will post you in ads like Sears and JC Penny, Macy's and commercials!. That is where you start!. Not everyone looks like Kate Moss!. Sooooo, look for an agency locally!. Very easy!. Good luck!. Yes, you are a pretty girl!. I admit that!.
You proved yourself well, hun!. Touche!

You win!.
