Question: Why if something if full of awe (awful) it is bad, but if it only has some awe (awesome) it is good!?

Actually, "awful" has changed meanings over the years!. For instance, Charles Dickens used the word "awful" to mean "awe inspiring" or "amazing!." Over the years since, however, we have begun to use it to mean "terrible!." This is not so odd when you realize that something awe-inspiring could also often e considered frightening!.

So, in a nutshell, "awful" is simply a matter of changing linguistics over the last century or so!. :-)Www@QuestionHome@Com

A fireworks show is a little awe inspiring!. A comet coming at you is too awesome to reckon with!.
