Question: I need some philosophy help plz!!?
Can someone help describe the historical development of Continental philosophy’s existentialism and phenomenology as a response to Hegelian idealism!.
I am so lost and confused!. I cannot use Wikipedia for references so if anyone can briefly explain this to me and give me a couple good websites to look at, that would be awesome! Thanks!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Whoa, cowgirl!. THAT's a big question!.
I'll see what I can do, though!. I suggest you focus on three individuals, and the way in which each of them reacted to/against Hegel!.
The three in chronological order are Soren Kierkegaard (1813-1885); Edmund Husserl (1859-1938); Martin Heidegger (1889-1976)!.
Kierkegaard's reaction to Hegel is best expressed in his ON THE CONCEPT OF IRONY (1841) and CONCLUDING UNSCIENTIFIC POSTSCRIPT (1846)!.
He thought of Hegelianism as the bureacratic/rationalized form of religion -- and the death of faith, which is individual, urgent, and non-rational!.
Husserl on the other hand was in many ways a faithful Hegelian throughout much oif his working life!. His early version of phenomenology was his effort to develop a scientific psychology in a Hegelian spirit!. But in his later work, in the 1930s, he came to see this as a failure -- and sought to break with his own Hegelian premises!.
Heidegger on the third hand was a Hegelian who didn't reralize how thoroughly Hegelian he was!. He saids some critical things, such as that "Hegel jumped over his own shadow into the sun”!.
But he re-enacted much of the same jump himself -- and ended up in the firey sun of Nazism!.
These are difficult waters!. I recommend the Heidegger section of William Barrett's book, THE ILLUSION OF TECHNIQUE!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
