Pay varies from venue to geographical location!. In general a musician (non-union) gets paid hourly per session or "gate receipt" per engagement or a combination of both!. There are "diminishing return royalty" (union pay scale) for television, radio and recorded concerts!. Again generally, musicians get paid crap!. Good (union) session players can do alright if they get steady studio or theatre work and build street cred (commercials, soundtracks, and live theatre my buddy did Les Mis for 4 years) Most would be below the poverty line if it weren't for day jobs, teaching, and steady hustling of merch!. for the band!. A wedding band (which is probably the toughest jobs for musicians, drunks that wanna hear "Mandy" 10 times a night!!) do alright but they are long hours and picky clients that give you the first set list that takes about 4 hours of practice that you don't get paid for!. The point is you have to be in it for the fun and love of your art, and not for the pay check or you will burn out quick!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
