Question: My 9 year old son wants to play drums!?
I want to buy him a used set and let him play in the garage but we live in a townhome community!. I'm a little concerned drums might be too loud and we'll get complaints!. Anyway, I'd like to get him a set!. Should I get an electric set with headphones to deal with the noise factor!? My thought is that he should learn to use all his senses while learning to play, so we should get him an actual "regular" set!. Any thoughts to guide me!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

you can get him a used kit!. check on www!.craigslist!.com they usually have good deals!. if you want hime just to practice, just get this practice pad thing http://www!.guitarcenter!.com/Remo-5-Piece!.!.!. but then he won't learn the sounds!. you can then get him an electric kit!.
or you can pay 1000 more dollars for this sound isolating thing, mostly for recording though http://www!.guitarcenter!.com/Cal-Mil-Port!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Simply out of consideration for others, I'd recommend buying an electronic drumset!. Your son will still be able to play just as well as he would with an acoustic set!. In fact, a lot of professionals record with electronic drums!. And if he ever wants to vary his setup, electronic sets are much easier to program and augment than traditional drums!. Most of them also allow for easy recording if you ever decide to connect your to a computer!. The downside is that electronic sets tend to cost more than their acoustic counterparts!.

Alternatively, you could consider buying him a game like Guitar Hero or Rock Band!. With the new Guitar Hero being a full-band game, he can use the drum controllers for either version!. For beginners, it's almost like having lessons built into the game!. In case he ends up getting real drums later, the playing patterns translate to real drums very accurately!. The only issues I can think of are the crude lyrics in some selections and the fact that there is a limited number of songs!.

Hope this helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

well in that case you should get him a electric set first so he could get good at it then when he is good at it and got the hang of it you could buy a regular set and him and his friends could start a band!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
