hello

Elizabeth I (7 September 1533 – 24 March 1603) was Queen of England and Queen of Ireland from 17 November 1558 until her death!.

The Queen's health remained fair until the autumn of 1602, when a series of deaths among her friends plunged her into a severe depression!.

In February 1603, the death of her cousin and close friend, Catherine Carey, Countess of Nottingham, came as a particular blow!.

In March, Elizabeth fell sick and remained in a "settled and unremovable melancholy"!.

She died on 24 March 1603 at Richmond Palace, between two and three in the morning!.

-of suspected blood poisoning (there was no post mortem)

- she was nearly70 years of age

The next king was James VI of ScotlandWww@QuestionHome@Com

She was 69 years old when she died on 24 March 1603!.

As Elizabeth had wished, there was no post mortem!. She is variously supposed to have died from blood poisoning, cancer or simply old age!. (Read below for an account of her death!.)

She was succeeded by James VI of Scotland also called then James I, the son of her cousin (second cousin) Mary, Queen of Scots, who was descended from her father's sister Margaret Tudor!.

She was fairly old for the times - late 50s/60s her death was old age!. She was succeeded by the son of Mary Queen of Scots and Lord Darnley!. Mary's father was James V of Scotland therefore Elizabeth's successor was James VI of Scotland, but when he became King of England he was James I, as England had never had a "James"!.

In case you are wondering how England/Scotland got tied up together I have explained a little better below:

James IV of Scotland married Mary Tudor (Henry VIII's sister)
They had a son (James V) who married Mary of Guise of France
They had a daughter (Mary Queen of Scots) who with Lord Darnley had a son - James VI of Scotland who became James I of EnglandWww@QuestionHome@Com
