because it was so BIG!. There have since been bigger wars unfortunately but at the time the sheer size of it was incredible - it virtually involved the entire world, hence its name!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the Great Wars are the ones that people enjoy the most!. Every once in a while, a war comes along that everyone can have fun with!. Those usually get the "Great" title tacked on to them!.

It usually accomplish something from one side of view, its not so great for the one who loosed the Battle!. Its like the difference people judge between War Hero and War Criminal!. IN reality, WAR is wrong, nothing is great or heroic about it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

first war to see use of toxic gases, tanks, heavy and light machine guns, plus air planes in battlefield, used trench style warfare!. had a couple battles where there were more than 1,000,000 casualties!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
