Question: I'm trying to find a 'Mary Ethel Ingalls' with no luck, help please!?
I found a very old photo of a 9-year-old girl today that has been printed on on cardboard!. The girl has (from the looks of it) brown or black hair, possibly blue or green eyes, and is very pretty!. The writing on the back appears as follows, by my judging:

"Mary Ethel Ingalls
Age 9 years 2 months 16 days
(died!?) (Dec!. or Oct!.) 18, 1892"

I'm not sure if it says Died or what, and I think it's Dec!. but I don't know!.!.!. help please!? I will try to upload the link in a little while and edit it when I do!. Help please!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

why not try web detective, i used the site when i was searching my grandparents!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

One critical key for your question is knowing what COUNTRY you are concerned with!. This child would have been born in about 1883!. In the US, that means she would NOT APPEAR in the census!.!.since it is after the 1880, but died before 1900!. The 1890 census was lost to a fire!.
If you are in the UK!.!. then you may be able to locate her in 1891 (the census is taken in different years)!.
If that does not work, there are 2 chances!.!. one is "genforum" and check with the Ingalls board!. Someone may have a family record such as a Bible!. Or, www!.rootsweb!.com has many submitted family files!. One way to "filter" would be look for anyone named Ingalls!.!.but use advanced search, and enter your state or county!.
It can be tricky to find a child who was born and died between the census being taken!.
edit
there is a Portland, Oregon, and Portland, Maine!.!. and maybe other towns named Portland!. You might be able to run down the photographer by a city directory!.!. but still need to narrow the search!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
