Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: No free Kilts!. I would have one if there were!. I have all ready purchased five myself!. Some as cheap as $80, but some four times that!. The clan gatherings of the Americas is for Americans!. The "real" folks across the pond really don't get into the surnames as big as we Americans!. They respect and honor, but they don't get silly with it!. Plus tartan is far more reaching than family names!. Most in the tartan world know that tartan is a poor man's coat of arms!. The Welsh were their own people, and even their own language!. Scots were mainly isolated to the north, and didn't do many social calls in their high times during the victorian age!. Being one of the seven celtic tribes, respect and maybe help during troubling times was about as good as it got!. There are no tales I can remember where the Welsh came together for any particular war or struggle for survival!. I would suspect they traded!. They all had their own bagpipes!. The Welsh had their Enrye Pipes!. But then again most of Europe had a version of bagpipe, and even Bulgaria still maintains their bagpipe as their national instrument!.Www@QuestionHome@Com The Welsh kilt is a modern invention!. Connecting them to surnames is really just a commercial development like calling different carpet lines "the Lynne line" or "the Catherine line"!. There's no historical basis for it!. Sorry to disappoint!. As one with Welsh heritage myself (Lewis in fact), it would be cool to have a piece of history like that!.
