Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Molly is right!. The others are wrong!. I usually "Line" it out, one generation per line, putting the child under the parent!. Let us call your cousin Alice!. We have:

Beatrice & Arthur = Brother & Sister
Bruce & Andrew = 1st cousins
Betty & Alice = 2nd cousins
babara evelyn & Annette = 3rd cousins

Your mother, "Betty" (or father, but "Betty" is an odd name for a man!. <grin>) is second cousin to "Alice"!. That makes you her second cousin once removed, since she is one generation "removed" from you!.

When "Alice" has a child, ("Annette"), that child will be your third cousin!.

Copy this into Notepad and change the names to the real ones if you want to explain it to "Alice"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Since the answer to the second part of your question is done, it helps to answer your first!.

Depending on what convention you and your family use, your cousin is your 3rd cousin!.!.!.or your first cousin twice removed!.

Think of it this way:
Your cousin's grandfather (let's call him John) and your great-grandmother (lets call her Joan) were siblings!. So John's kids and Joan's kids were first cousins; their respective children would be second cousins; and their respective kids would be 3rd cousins!. So the cousin you just met would be your mom/dad's 2nd cousin (or 1st cousin once removed) and they'd be your 3rd cousin (or 1st cousin twice removed)!.

Hope that wasn't confusing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You are 2nd cousins once removed!. Your cousin's child will be your 3rd cousin!.

Your great grandmother and your cousins' grandfather were brother/sister
Your grandmother and your cousins' father were 1st cousins
Your mother and your cousin are 2nd cousins
This cousin is your 2nd cousin once removed and you will be 3rd cousins to their child!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't know the answer to the first part of your question but the link below gave me this definition for "one removed" etc!.
Starting with YOU, children of your FIRST COUSINS are your FIRST COUSINS, ONCE REMOVED!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
