Question: Wedgewood or Wedgwood!?
Does anyone know why some spell Wedgwood with and e!? Or the origin of the last name!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
The English pottery maker spells its name as Wedgwood without the second "e"!. Perhaps online sources, such as the Huffington Post, were so upset about the news that Waterford Wedgwood, PLC was filing for bankruptcy that their web page editor misspelled the headline!.

Seriously, the surname derives from a wood lying on the moors between the headwaters of the Trent River and Foulay Brook!. A township located here was traditionally the smallest in the parish of Wolstanton, Straffordshire, England!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

According to Ancestry "English: habitational name from Wedgwood in Staffordshire!. "

Names were often spelled a few different ways in the past, a lot of people couldn't read or write at all, so the names were written down however they sounded, and very annoying it is too when you are trying to track your ancestors down!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
