This seems to have legitimate info and sources for you. When people are not sure of the (adopted) names, then this seems to be the best means. If they were not infants, then the likelihood is that they will probably remember the birth names.
One thing that must be remembered HERE at yahoo answers.. it is prohibited from posting names or personal info for living persons. That does NOT translate into the same being prohibited on other sites, especially if those names are a key factor in what you are hoping to locate.
There are numerous search engines to find the equivalent of phones and addresses. Those are fairly generic, and at least here, persons can choose to have phone numbers unlisted. Some businesses have better access to more detailed files/ databases... since that is exactly how they make their living. Since they have the resources and skills that the average person will not have, it is reasonable that they are not always free. You MIGHT find that using a private investigator could be worth the fee.
good luck...

The only place in the UK that holds the adoption records is the GRO here's the link for you,
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/adopti...
these indexes are adoptions done through the court after 1st January 1927, these registers are not for public use, you will have to phone the GRO, there is also a fee for this service, but I have no idea how much it is. sorry.
Hope this helps.
