If they came in 1863-73, Ellis Island would not have been open yet (not till June 1892, in fact). So, they could have landed in Canada, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, etc. Do you have place where they lived in 1900? In the original census image, it should list if they are naturalized or not. You may (or may not) find the specific ship information... but if they applied to be a citizen, that info/ date and frequently the village/town of origin would be in the application for naturalization. edit- looks like gene-e has covered for the location of the naturaliziation files. I'd just like to add that if you can order those files online from Michigan, count yourself blessed. edit2- before you go nuts trying to find info on Ellis Island.. it did not open until 1892. You will need to know the county of your ancestor. Once you have that you can search for their records at the Archives of Michigan. See the Archives of Michigan website for full details: http://www.michigan.gov/documents/mhc_sa... Some of the counties have online indexes. You can order the naturalization records online as well. You can search for immigration records by County records, as well. See the following website for instructions per county: http://www.mymichigangenealogy.com Try the U.S. Dept of Immigration they might (should) have all of the records you may need. Try the "Ellis Island" ship manifests . Here is a link for Passenger Search at the Ellis Island website. http://www.ellisisland.org/search/passSe... |
