Position:Home>Genealogy> Do you know an Arizmendez?Question:That is my last name. I found out while I was in Spain that my name has its origins from the northern parts of Spain. I was just wondering if anyone has any ties with anyone with the same last name. I am interested in verifying this is actually true. Thanks. ~Steven http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/f... has 58 entries for the exact spelling. They are all in places Spaniards colonized, not Span itself. http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.c... has 6 entries. There are only 668 hits for it in Google, so it is rare. http://www.buber.net/Basque/Surname/A/ar... says ========================== ARIZMENDEZ Is a variation located in Mexico of the Surname ARIZMENDI. In the books that I have consulted this surname only exists in Mexico, and it doesn't exists in the Basque Country. Another possibility would be that there were two surnames, one of them Basque: ARIZ, and the other Spanish MENDEZ, but I don't think this would be a satisfactory answer. ================================= The Basque country is in the north of Spain |
