You could also invite a friend to come teach you before the party. my personal fave is crank dat by soulja boy. it has a nice beat and an awesome dance. u can look it up on youtube. Some of the party dances like the one you are planning had came from several styles of swing dancing....from the Lindy Hop to the Jitterbug to Rock and Roll Dancing. A lot of swing songs lilke "Jump, Jive and Wail" of Brian Setzer and "In The Mood" by the Benny Goodman Band will make you do some cool swing moves....and I can show you several of them...... Here are some of my favorite moves.... Boogie Back I adore this move highly. Sort of a regular kick-ball- change but each time you kick-ball-change, you go back progressively. Man: Kick LF, Land on LF behind RF, change weight to LF in place Lady:Kick RF, Land on RF behind LF, change weight to RF in place Often, it is done 4 times in sequence, counted 8 and 1 2 and 3 4 and 5 6 and 7 (Chris Martin, a dance teacher from New York, has found out that Lindy Hop focuses on the weak beat "8" more often than the other beats.) Suzy-Q Often seen in the swing line dance called "The Jitterbug Stroll." It can also be done in the Lindy. Suppose you want to start the Suzy-Q with your RF free. I found out that there are two versions of this. The easier version: RF crosses over LF as it turns 1/4 to L at the same time, and then, as you move your RF out to side, the RF swivels 1/4 to R and at the same time, the LF slides out (or scoots) in second position with no heel dig. (QQ) The harder version: RF crosses over LF as it turns 1/4 to L at the same time, and then, as you move your RF out to the side RF swivels 1/4 to R and at the same time, the LF slides out (or scoots) in second position with a heel-dig. (QQ) Shorty George These are forward progressive swivels on strongly flexed knees, in a walking style almost similar to jive walks. Usually it is done in semi-open hold. You flex knees strongly to achieve the illusion that you are short (hence, "shorty george") but the back still needs to be straight. Pecking Frankie Manning (known to had invented over half of the death-defying air steps in Lindy Hop) had described this move as a face dance move. [The good news is that pecking is just an advanced trick, not an air step.] The faces of both the leader and follower face each other, and with a visual and hand lead, they make their faces come toward--and away from each other, in quick succession, usually three times. (Imagine that you are trying to peck on a tree.) |
