Question: Is this appropriate!? Scenerio inside!.!?
Okay!. Picture this, please!.
Your guard is down and, for the first time in a long time, everything is good!. You're happy!.
You're at school, alone - with good reason, mind you!.
In your peripheral vision you spot something and look up!.
To your horror, it's a monster-who-looks-like-a-guy that you've seen murder people!.
Now, before you run, you say "sh't"!.
End Scene!.

Is that inappropriate in a YA novel!? There hasn't been much cussing before that, mostly slang!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't see a problem with that!. It sounds like your character is under extreme duress!. It totally makes sense to swear in that kind of situation!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Annie,

Your best bet is to check out some YA novels and see what other authors have done in the way of PG/PG-13 language!. Christopher Pike's novels would be a good place to start!.

In a lot of the anthologies I've been published in they tend to say, "check out our previous works so you'll get an idea of what we're looking for!."

Well, for some people, the cursing wouldn't bug them!. But, if I came across that in the book, then I'd put it down immediately and never touch it again!. However, without the cursing, the scene sounds intense and I now want to hear more! Without the cursing, of course!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think you'd probably want to change that to "crap" for the YA genre; however, as someone else noted, do some research and see if the S word is used in them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think it will be nice!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
