Question: Do books ALWAYS come before movies!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
No, it's just normally that way!. All the big kids film studios bring out book versions of films!. I wouldn't call them exciting literature or anything and usually they are just for young kids (missing most of the plot etc) but think pocahontas, toy story, monsters inc, wall-e!.!.!. Any kids film that had sucess has been made into some kind of book!.
Then if you take series like Star trek, Buffy, Dr!. Who!.!. they also have full length books based on the central theme of the series, as a spin off or even versions of episodes!.
I can't think of any real proper films that have gone on to be books but I'm sure there are a few!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!.

When a books is turned into a movie it is called an "adaptation" because you are "adapting" the book into a movie!. This may be the most common way for things to go!.
Examples: The Wizard of Oz, The Godfather, Jaws, Twilight, Clockwork Orange, 2001, Harry Potter, etc!.

When a movie is turned into a book, it is called a "novelization" because you are taking the movie and rewriting it in the form of a novel!.
Examples: Star Wars, Star Trek, etc!.
Most book novelizations are based on science fiction it seems!., though there are also crime and drama novelizations!. also, a novelization is writing a novel based on ANY media source!. For example, the video game Halo was written as a novel (Halo: The Fall or Reach and Halo: First Strike) and I think one was even a certified best seller!. There have been novelizations of radio shows, video games, cartoons, plays, even band tours!. Novelizations have been around since at least the 1920's, when movies and radio were starting to become a more complete and common art form are were just starting to produce full-length original story ideas!.

And some movies are wholly original!. They did not come form a book, and they did not have a book written about them!.

Two more things:
The process is rarely clean and can get confusing!. For example, sometimes a movie is based on a short story (where the short story came first), but then the movie is novelized to produce a full-length novel!. In that case, it goes short story -> movie -> novel!. So the book is really a novelization of a shorter written story in some ways!.
also, the novelization of a movie may be released before the movie, even if the book was written after the movie was conceived, written, and filmed!. Movies take a year or more to put together and a novelization can often happen in a few months!. So they may write a movie, film the movie, and be editing the movie before the book writing starts, but the book may still come out a month before the movie hits theaters!. The book is still a novelization of the movie, even though it was released first, though, because it is based on the movie and would not have existed at all without the movie having been made!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Books do not always come before movies!. A prime example would be the original Star Wars Trilogy!. George Lukas wrote the books after he produced the movies!. Another example is Independence Day!. Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich wrote the book after they made the film!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Discovery Channels now defunct Movie Magic series!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Plenty of successful movies are written in book form after the film comes out!. They're called "novelizations"!.

I believe the X-Men films were novelized, for an example!. At least, I think I saw them on a Barnes and Noble shelf once!.!.!. Regardless of whether that example is correct or not, it happens pretty often!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, many screenplays are original and not based on books or other media!.

Sometimes, as another writer pointed out, books are written based on movies!. In my experience, these are poorly written and barely fleshed-out screenplays!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

mostly yes!.!.!. but I want people to write more books based on movies!.!.

I still hope someone would write a book about Pirates of the Caribbean!
I would read them all!
Wouldn't this be so cool!?
The love between Elizabeth Swann and William turnner on paper!.!.!.
a book about Jack Sparrow!.!.!.
jaj!!! ^^Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sometimes, but other times, the book is written afterwards!.!.!.
I can't think of any good examples right now!.!.!.Sorry!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Most of the time yeah, but not always!. :P imo the good movies come out in books first:)Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!. Just as an example, there are a whole series of Star Trek books written after the movies!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not always!.!.!.Just look at the whole mess of book series and companion books to the Star Wars movies!Www@QuestionHome@Com
