Question: How do i read a novel!? I really cant do it!.!?
I dont think i ever read any books in my life except like, Boxcar Children and Goosebumps when i was little, and even then i would half *** them!.

Whenever i read, i read the words, but i always miss out on the meaning!. So i go like two pages and i have no clue what just happened!. I always wanted to try to read, but its just too hard for me!. I either fall asleep, or think about something else and realize i should be doing something different!.

I want to pick up the original Godfather book, and try to read that!. But i have a feeling it will be a waste of money!.

I tried to read Quo Vadis a while ago and i got 14 pages in before i quit!.

Need tips!.!.!.

I am 20 years old and i am unable to read a book lol!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My elder son had the same problem, and it kept him from graduating high school!. He just couldn't/wouldn't read!. It made us sad, because you can't go to college if you won't read!. So the kid worked in gas stations until he was 20, also!.

It was while he was working the night shift at a local gas station that he got so bored, he said to me, "What's a good book that I might like!?" This was such a shock! A book!? For my kid!? A real book!?

Well, when he was 16, he had his tonsils out, and I used to go over to see him and bring him soup and such during lunch hour, and TNT-TV had the series "Spenser For Hire" starring Robert Ulrich and Avery Brooks on during the day!. This show was based on characters from the "Spenser" novels by Robert B!. Parker, and these novels are short, funny, adventure stories about the wise-cracking Boston tough guy and his buddy, big black Hawk, and the boy and I would watch the show while we had our soup, so I knew the kid liked the characters!.

I said to the then-20 year old,"Oh, I might have an idea or two!." I got him a couple of the Spenser books, and he actually asked for more! My son wanted more books! I'm sniffling right now, because that made me so happy and proud!.

One time our younger boy called me to tell me that he and his buddies had been goofing around at the gas station, and the older boy said, "You guys get out of here! I'm trying to read!" More sniffling!.

Anyhow, after the Spenser books, we got him Ian Fleming's James Bond books, and he burned through them, too!. After that, he went through some of Ed McBain's "87th Precinct" books, too!.

My point is that my boy hated to read until he found something he liked, and I'm sure that you can find that, too!. Try illustrated novels if you want!. "V for Vendetta" was really good, as was "The Road to Perdition!." Just keep looking, and you'll find something that sparks your interest!.

Good luck, my young friend, and take heart!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Have a look at audio books and see if there are any you fancy!. If you have a particular paperback/hardback and can also find it on tape/CD/DVD, you could then listen to the book whilst following the words of the text in your paperback/hardback!. Don't give up - a lot of people take a long time to read a book, so take your time and enjoy the reading you do manage!. Get a few good bookmarks :)

I haven't got around to reading my copy of Quo Vadis at all so you are 14 pages further than me, lolWww@QuestionHome@Com

Try picking up an audio book!. Your library might have books on CD or cassette you can try!. Start with something short, maybe four discs!. I like to listen to audio books when I'm doing chores or working out!. If you can get through one of the shorter ones and remember the story, try a longer one!. Then you might try to move into actually reading a novel, again starting with a short one!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it is possible that maybe your subconscious is telling you that you just don't like to read!. and everyone is into different things!. I don't really have a problem with picking up and just about reading any random book!. what i would recommend is for you to watch some movies and found out what your favorite genre of movie is!. then look into that type of book and look for a plot that would interest you!. don't pick up the hardest and most boring thing you find!. stick with your interest and im sure you'll start to enjoy reading more!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

try reading books you like!. don't just start reading a book that you think has a cool cover or you saw the movie and you think the book might be like it!. what ever interests you like maybe a sport or something that happened in history or maybe even books that have vampires in it!. again find a book that you have an interest for in the subject that it is based upon!. and start on easy books than work your way up to harder ones!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You may suffer from short attention span!. If you didn't experience college as of yet you may be in trouble b/c many courses require much reading!. Just continue to try to read a little at a time!. even if it's a few pages a day!. At least you're READING : )Www@QuestionHome@Com

start small, and build it up each day!. For example, the first day, you could read one page, and ask yourself what happened after each page!. Then later, you could ask yourself what happened after reading two pages!.!.!.etcWww@QuestionHome@Com

Ever gone to a doctor to see if you have Attention Deficit Disorder!?
He might be able to help!.
Otherwise, the only advice I can give you is to read in a secluded area with no distractions!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Try to make the story relate to your life and ask yourself questions about the characters' future!. This way you'll be intrigued and you'll keep going back to it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Try reading easier books!. Then gradually start reading harder and bigger books!. This'll develop your reading skills!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Listen to mozart to stimulate your brain!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You have a short attention span!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hey, it's totally okay!. My brother is the same way!. He couldn't even read Sounder for a book report and it's like 50 pages long!. I think your best bet is finding a book that will entertain you and hold your attention and interest!. What kind of things would you like to read about/interest you!? What genre appeals to you most (ex:fantasy, mystery, thriller, romance, etc!.) When you decide on a genre then you can most likely go to BarnesandNoble!.com and read reviews on the book and get a summary of it!. (That's what I do) Good luck!! :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

First of all, "Quo Vadis" is quite an undertaking; not a good place to start!.

Some people don't like to read; it's not a character flaw or a failing!. It's just how it is!. You obviously are able to read; it sounds like you got through school!.

I have a couple of suggestions:

Audiobooks are a good option for enjoying the book when you can't, for whatever reason, actually read the pages!.

Read aloud!. It can help to hear the words rather limit the sensory experience to just seeing the words!.

"The Godfather" is an incredible, compelling story!. It's nearly impossible to put it down!.

Try to stick to novels that are sure to keep your attention!. Stephen King is a great storyteller, as is John Grisham!. Grisham's "The Firm" and "The Pelican Brief" are two of his earlier titles that move along rather quickly!. ("The Client" is very slow; don't bother, at least for now!.)

If you want to cultivate an interest/ability in reading, I'd urge you to stay with the popular bestsellers, rather than to go down the literary fiction road!. Popular fiction has the story as its primary focus while literary fiction has a number of other goals that you likely don't want to bother with just yet!.

Reading is one of the greatest joys in my life!. If you want to read, put your mind to it and read!. You can do it!. It will take some time but it is a very reasonable goal!.

I do think the notion that you might have ADD is something to consider!. Talk to your doctor!. There are very simple tests (inventories) that take a few minutes that can determine the need to investigate futher and perhaps order medication, which can change your life!.

Hope this helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not sure if you are just trolling with this, but because I prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt!.!.!.

If you have a tiny attention span, then do not read huge books!.

Go to a book shop, or the library and get a book of short stories or novellas!.

Try a Stephen King one, The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, a few others which currently escape my memory, which are thought of as some of his best work and were made into fabulous movies, are actually short stories or novellas (short novel)!.

If you like comedy, try one of the following Terry Pratchett books:

Johnny and the Dead
Johnny and the Bomb
Only You Can Save Mankind

These are actually aimed at older kids, but his adult fans love them too!.

Don't make it hard on yourself, but do try to get into reading, you will be so pleased you did!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My step father sort of has the same thing i think, ill have to ask him, but he once told me that he used to read loads, but since he got older he read the words but he could not imagine what was seeing in the book, the words were just meaningless words on a page and when he first told me that i was like WHAT because i love to read, but i was only 13 so i had no idea it was a real problem for some people!.!.!. try to read something you have maybe already seen the film of, a film you like so it will spur you on to reach the part you like in the book, maybe harry potter (because there not just for kids) and are easy to read!. Or reading magazines or newspapers, just read everything and then slowly go onto books, not massive complicated ones but easier ones to start off with!. i hope i helped :) good luck xWww@QuestionHome@Com

Why read them then!? I hate reading, i find it arduous and boring so I don't read!. In the same way, if you can't do a backflip why bother!? If it's not necessary, don't bother reading it!. some people prefer to watch movies, or draw pictures!. Work to your strengths, and you will be fine in life!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
