It really depends on her personality!. If she's a pop princess and a social butterfly, then no!. If she is kind of quite, and had tragic moments in her life, then go for it! But I could kind of imagine her as a 17 year old!. I saw a movie a few days ago and it was about a house bunny (really pretty, popular person) and her name was SHELLY!. I couldn't BELIEVE that!!! The name just does NOT suit her! So think about that!. I cannot think of anybody named Cheryl except my friends mom who is like 50!. So it is a pretty old fashion name!.

17 years old - if your story is set in modern times - is a logical name:

Her parents most likely knew of Cheryl Ladd and Cheryl Tiegs!. (Actress and Model)!. Since a lot of people do name their kids for their favorite actors / actresses / models / sports figures, then the name does work as a real name, rather than something that you have forced into the story!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Cheryl does sound old (it's my mother-in-law's name!)

But old names are coming back in style, with cute nicknames!. Cher is kind of well known - but maybe Chery (Sherry) - and anyway, reading is different than real life because once a person reads the name enough, and associates it with your character, you won't have to worry about preconceptions!.

Harry used to sound like an old name to me, but when I read Harry Potter, it doesn't get in the way of the story!.

Stick with it!. Keep it for a while, and really work the name to see if it fits the character!. That's what I always do - pick a random name, work with it, see if it works!. And most of the time, the name comes to fit the character!.
But personally, I can clearly imagine Cheryl as a 17-year-old girl!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you like it and it seems well suited to your character, keep it!. It's not my particular taste and it's not common amongst current day teenagers, however, sometimes that's a good thing!. :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well not really!.!.!.!.!.try something more unique!.!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
