Question: Writing A Depressing Story!?
Recently I've had a dream that was a little off the normal scale as it was terribly depressing and affected my day!. Of course, being an aspired writer, I decided to transfer my dream into text form as a short story!.

First of all, the story has no dying, no foul language, or any sexual elements (except for one part, but it is very brief and provides atmosphere to the story)!. Reading it now, it focuses more on the topic of fear of the unknown and being unappreciative of the time that is given to us!.

When I started writing it, however, it seems I've come across a barricade at which I don't want to write any further!. I continue to write, but it seems even my emotions are catching up with me!. also, as I am getting further along into the story, I feel as if I can't stomach the contents I am writing!.

So I guess I have a couple of questions!.

Are there any writers who have ever experienced something like this!?
Will the reader also feel these emotions and refuse to read it!?
Is this the effect of writing down the things of my dreams!?

I know this is kind of weird, but I thank anyone who answers!.

I always have dreams that are off the "normal" scale!. So don't worry about that!. In fact, I should write down in a journal every time I have a "normal" dream!. Dreams are very strong, as you found out!. They say a lot about us in general and, at the same time, they provide ammo for a writer!.

So since that writers often use their dreams as a storyline, I am sure they have encountered something you are going through right now!. It's nothing traumatic, really!. If your emotions are powerful while writing, then it might help to bring your story to life!.

If the reader feels the emotions you are feeling right now - then kudos you! It won't make them refuse to read your work!. An author hopes that the reader will feel the pain, the joy, the anger they did!.

It could be an effect of writing down the things of your dreams - but I wouldn't let it deter you!. Keep on writing!. And you might even want to keep a dream journal!. The more ammo you have - the more you'll be able to break through writers block!.

Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

that's happened to me!. just take a brake from it and maybe one day you will see it again and think: why did i ever stop writing!?

also, i don't think it will affect the reader!. if you really think it's THAT bad you could always tweak it a little bit!. but, the reader doesn't know how YOU felt when you were writing the book!. it may seem bad in your eyes because you don't fell the same pizazz for it you had before!. when a person reads a book they have no background info!. every turn and jump is a surprise!. you on the other hand know the whole story!.

as for your dreams that has no effect!. stephenie meyer's twilight saga books were based on her dreams and look how she turned out! you will do just fine:) keep writing! i am actually curious to read this story now!Www@QuestionHome@Com

well i have a story that developed one day that i would give anything to get rid of but it wont leave my mind
its about a kid that has a (ridiculously) abusive father!.!.!.so long things short the kid gets really really depressed and suicidal and starts cutting and it just gets reall depressing
and then, feelingwise, it all started happening to me (not suicidal tho) and i got really depressed and miserable and my "friends" started ignoring me cuz one of friends was a jerk!.!.!.!.!.!.!.so yes, it is quite possible for your story/writing emotions to catch up with you

as for readers, it depends!. in the first place, the emotion probably wont be as strong, and readers will also be prepared to read what you have written since they picked it up
and as for the dream thing, not in my opinion!.!.!. i think this sorta thing happens more when youre deeply into a story

in any case, if your writing is really wrecking havoc on your emotional well being, take a break!. it helps a tonWww@QuestionHome@Com

Yes I can honestly say that something I've written moved me to inactivity!. With my whole soul and being I didn't wish to continue!. As a result I've put everything down and have not worked on my writing in weeks!.
My editor had once told me she could tell when I was fighting with my boyfriend because the scenes I was writing became increasingly hostile although filled with passionate emotion!. However the characters were treating each other indifferently!. So I think readers can pick up on emotions that is why they read!. I know I read to change my mood or if I'm in a particular mood I want to read something comical, thrilling, adventurous, dark, dramatic or romantic!.
But unless it's a truly disturbing piece (for me that would be extremely gratuitous blood shed/murder or perverse sexually acts) I very rarely put a book down (unless it's a poorly written book)!. Ideally different readers will have different reactions about the same subject you will have people who want to see more others who will avoid a topic, but if writing is a way for you to get these disturbing emotions out of you so that you can begin to dream of blue skies and lollipop fields again than do it for yourself if no one else!. I know for me that once I get a story down on paper to it's completion then it's gone!. I'm finished!. It doesn't come back because the story has played itself out to the end!. I don't even have sequels!.
