Question: Permission to use photo of yourself!?
A newspaper took my photo and posted it on their site!. I can copy and use the photo on my site!? Or do I have to ask permission!? also, I had two articles about me in two magazines, can I post them in their entirety on my site without asking permission!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
If you took the photo and submitted it to the newspaper then you still own it lock, stock and barrel!. No need to ask permission as they are not in a position to give it!. The newspaper simply has limited reproduction rights!. You still own the copyright!. That is all assuming you did not sign away your rights to the image, which is something I cannot see a newspaper asking for!. Even if the paper used one of your images under the "fair use" clause, which allows news organizations to reproduce, without permission, copyrighted content under specific conditions, it's still your photo, period!.

As for the articles, the newspaper owns those, so it would be best to either link directly to those pages, or get permission to include on your site!. Chances are the paper would allow you to do so, as long as you keep the writer credits included!.

NOTE: I think I misread the post, although I'll leave my answer posted!. I thought (when you said they "took" a photo) that the newspaper BORROWED a photo, not actually SHOT a photo!. That's a different story, altogether!. If the newspaper photographer actually shot the photo, then like the stories you'll need permission to add those directly onto your website!. Sorry if I misunderstood!. Somebody give me a thumbs down, or two, to make me feel better!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

What I would do to play it safe is linking to their site!. For editorial purposes they can take those pictures and still own them without getting your approval to post the picture!.

I would also contact the paper and ask if you can use the picture and see what they say
