Question: What are Elizabethan Masques!?
We are doing a project in Theatre about different types of theatre and i don't understand what Elizabethan Masques are!. I think they are performances of acting, poetry and dance performed in courtyards and in homes done in masques to hide one's identity!.

You've got the general idea!. A Masque was a themed costume ball of sorts with performances and dancing before the host and guests, then everybody joined in for the rest of the ball!. "Masque" refers to the performances and ball, not to the literal wearing of masks!.

The costumes were very important to a Masque and were usually historically influenced!. http://www!.elizabethancostume!.net/masque!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
