Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Uncomfortable about this!?

Question: Uncomfortable about this!!?
I am doing drama at college not because I want to be an actress, but because I want to be a manager and producer!. However, as part of my course I have to play Valere in Moliere's Tartuffe, a guy, who is in love with Marianne!. Our director wants us to kiss!.!.!.and I'm not comfortable with it!. I'd like to think I'm open minded, my best friend is bi-sexual and I have many other gay friends who I met through working in theatre!. However, I just don't feel comfortable about kissing this girl!. She's very nice and friendly, but I'm not sure she's 100% happy about it either!. Are we being too prudish and close minded or is it okay to feel a little weird about it, and what is the best way to deal with the situation!? Should we just get over it and do this, or is there a better way to deal with it!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

It might be best if you and the girl sit down and talk to your director and suggest some other interaction rather than a kiss!. You shouldn't have to do something you don't want to do!. Make it clear that you didn't take this class in order to be a professional actress!. Maybe say you understand that it would be good practice for a professional to kiss someone they didn't want to kiss, or to put aside their comfort or morals in order to do something for their career, but that is not the kind of professional lessons you need to learn!.

If you are genuinely upset, then you can quit!. If it's imperative to your major to have this credit hour, then talk to the person above the director, and make your case to them!. If you're still being ignored, then talk to the school newspaper - you shouldn't have to do something you don't want to do, and people are sympathetic with that!.

Good luck - be sure to let us know if you talk to your director and what solution you all come to!. It's a tough situation, but if you're strong in what you want, you should be able to get it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I was in a play where two characters had to be on top of eachother kissing, but the director worked it out so it just look liked they were making out, but it was just how they did it!.

ask the director for something like that!?

if not, just get it over with, or you will regret it!. the preformance will be just o-k!.

good luck! :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

hmm, actually if both of you feel weird about it, then it will add lovely tension to the scene and possibly make it better!. if you want to be prudish about it, kiss the side of her mouth!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

talk to the director about it or do it for the love of actingWww@QuestionHome@Com
