since you play piano, it will help getting your fingers moving!.
clarinets can cost a lot depending on the quality!. stay away from first act, cecilio and cheap plastic ones!. i would suggest going to your local music shop or check out wood wind brass wind, which is a reliable site for instruments!. http://wwbw!.com/Search/Default!.aspx!?Ne=4!.!.!.
they have them pretty cheap!. make sure you read reviews!.
this one is for about 200 dollars http://wwbw!.com/Barrington-Model-336-Stu!.!.!. that's really cheap!. it is five stars!. if you want a more better clarinet, you would have to spend more money!. http://wwbw!.com/Buffet-Crampon-B12-Bb-Cl!.!.!. buffet is really good!. i would recommend them!. you could just browse around wood wind brass wind , see which one fits your budget, or if the budget isn't your problem, get maybe one that costs more and intermediate!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I"m not a clarinetist (flutist actually), but learning any new instrument is difficult, but like with piano, it just takes practice!. The piano skills will help as you already have basic music theory skills under your belt and have a fair amount of finger dexterity!. As a result, you'll be able to spend more time in your lessons on the actual playing of the instrument!.

In terms of the cost, clarinets range from several hundred dollars to thousands!. Most of the beginning line clarinets are made out of plastic, which usually produces a brighter sound!. The professional wooden clarinets (such as Buffet R13) produce a fuller/warmer tone!. The cost will also vary some depending on what bells/whistles the clarinet has!. If possible, have a reputable clarinet teacher give you recommendations on what's a decent beginning model instrument (yamaha comes to my mind)!. They can also hook you up with decent quality reads, ligeratures (the device that holds the reed in place), good places to order music, etc!. Then, after a while, if you decide that you want to stick with the instrument, then you can start looking into up-gading your instrument!.

Depends on where you buy the clarinet and the brand!. A new one could range $400-800, depending on new or used!. Lots of stores carry rental policies to make the prices more manageable!.
The clarinets I've purchased have ranged from $200-$3000, but I purchased a professional one!.

I would recommend, if you want one to just learn and teach yourself, start with a cheap-o!. The best brands I recommend are Yamaha, LeBlanc, and Conn-Selmer!. There are lots of models under each brand to choose from and you can find them anywhere - pawn shops, stores, online, and the like!.

Give a search for "clarinet" on YouTube to hear the tone quality - that's the best way to hear the sound because it's hard to describe!.

You want a clarinet that's ebonite or plastic - I strongly encourage ebonite because it flexes a little more than plastic when you play it and sounds less piercing!. If you buy a used one, I recommend you purchase a new mouthpiece, but they can be pricey, so if you accept a used one, dip it in some alcohol or instrument cleaner (found at any music store) to kill germs!. Then take a toothbrush and scrub it out!. Make sure to rinse it thoroughly!.

If you're trying to teach yourself, I recommend you buy a method book to start from!. Here are the best method books I use:

1) Essential Elements
2) Standards of Excellence
3) First Division Band Method
4) Rubank Method Books (start with beginner) - this I STRONGLY recommend!. They have a huge variety of method books to choose from!.

Below I've given you some websites to browse!. The first ones are where to find good used clarinets - for your purpose, used would be best and cheapest!. The last half are company websites where you could purchase one new!. I don't recommend department store brands - often, they're a one-time model, so no replacement parts are made should the clarinet need repair (and it will, usually does once a year)!.

Lastly, go to your local music store - some will buy and fix up old instruments to re-sell or rent!. Some will let customers put up ads to sell their old instruments - just visit and ask the clerk!Www@QuestionHome@Com

my clarinet cost about $800, but it was used (new mouthpiece, so not nasty) and plastic!. my aunt's was wooden and cost about $1500!. I would advise getting selmer or yamaha!. not the cheapo you get at walmart!. they make colored plastic ones (like red, purple, green there's a black one with gold keys that looks really cool) The piano will help because you can already read notes and with the finger moving!. The sound is very soothing and strong in the lower notes!. higher notes take a lot of air, so it'll be a while before you can play them!. High can sound good also, but i am a bigger fan of the low notes (like e below the staff)!. hope i helped!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

my friend bought a clarinet for $500!. she brings it to school when we're having band tests or something, so she can play her best!. she loves it! the best way to hear the sound is to hear it on youtube or something!. it produces this low sound, but not as low as brass instruments!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

if its a good brand new one then it should cost around $1,500-2,000 but there are some other ones that cost around $500, and they aren't so bad!. but since your a beginner, you shouldn't get those until your more advanced
and yeah piano should help because you can move your fingers pretty quickly and you can already read music pretty wellWww@QuestionHome@Com
