Make sure your index finger is barring across the fingerboard just behind the fret -- not ON TOP of the fret, but not too far back away from it, either!.

Your fretting hand wrist should be bent OUT, away from you!.

Squeeze the guitar neck HARD between your index finger and thumb, with the pad of your thumb on the back of the guitar neck!.

I agree with everyone above but when I first started I did one thing that made it a little easier!.

Practice a little further from the nut!. Practice maybe at the 5th or 7th fret and as you begin to master it , do it in the other positions!. The middle of the neck seems the easiest place to begin cause it is easier to get and keep the strings downWww@QuestionHome@Com

Make sure that your index finger is as close to the fret as possible, and use the side of the finger to barre!. It's gonna be tough but soon barre chords are gonna be easy!.
