Question: Can you tell me about the bass guitar!?
I don’t know why but I’m completely infatuated with the bass guitar!. It stemmed from playing a lot of Rock Band last Christmas with my little brother and sister!. They put me on the bass because it was fairly easy, and I kind of just learned to listen to the bass and only the bass when a song comes on!. Even now, over a year later, I only listen to the bass in songs and am in love with the sound it makes!.

My question is, is it a hard instrument to learn!? If I took lessons, how much would they cost and would I have to buy a guitar first!? What are the odds that if I was good, I would get to be in a band or something!? I am a 22 year old girl!. I played the violin and piano when I was younger and can read sheet music!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

People need to stop thinking this instrument is more easy to play than that instrument!. All instruments are a challenge to play in their own special way!.

People I know who played bass said they wanted to play guitar but since it has less strings it would be more easy!. Sadly that is not true!. My bassist and all my bass guitars are are from 4 to 8 strings!. They make bass guitars all the way up to 26 strings surprisingly!.

Bass guitar is a challenge in it's self because you must keep in time at all times like the drummer, and also gotta hold a melody!.

Playing bass guitar is actually as in every aspect as technical as normal guitar for the fact the limits to what you can do is truely endless also!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Aw - yes, the bass guitar!. I played it when I was in high school!. Pretty easy to learn, and since you've played the violin and piano, shouldn't take you too long to read music for it!. As for how much it costs, I haven't got a clue!. Yes, you would need to buy a guitar first, and about getting in a band - that is totally up to you and your aspirations!. Go for it!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

To play the bass like so many modern bassists do isn't anything special, but if you really try and practice you can get really good!. Bands are always looking for a good bassist!. I used to play the bass myself and meeting someone else who could actually play it was hard to do!.

Some people you should check out are Geddy Lee from Rush and John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin!. They were my two biggest bass idols and can really play their instruments!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You should go for it! Of course you will need a bass when you start lessons, and as for the price of lessons, that depends on the area you live, but expect approx $20 per 1/2 hour!. If you get good, you will be in high demand!. Lead guitarists are a dime-a-dozen, but a good bassist is always hard to find!.
Please check out Tal Wilkenfeld on youtube!. She is a young lady who kicks butt on bass and already has quite a career!Www@QuestionHome@Com

You should definitely give it a try, especially if you can read music and played piano and violin previously!. The bass is similar to the violin in (normally) being a 4-stringed instrument, only tuned in 4ths instead of 5ths (EADG instead of GDAE)!.
Lessons depend on the teacher, but normally you can expect to pay about $20-25/hr!. You don't always need your own bass first, but it's definitely recommended!. You can find a good beginner's bass for about $200 probably if you don't want to invest too much yet, or find one second-hand!.
Finally, whether you get good or not, you should be able to find people to play with!. Keep in mind, the best thing you can do to improve is play with people who are better than you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
