Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
1) Recitative - is singing in speech rhythm!. Very few words are repeated!. There is very little accompaniment!. It generally advances the plot!. It also allows for discussion between characters!.

Aria - is a solo song expressing feelings!. There are many repeated words, sometimes 4 or 5 minutes on just 2 or 3 lines of text! There is intricate accompaniment, which can take a solo role whilst the singer is silent!. And it also enables a character to reflect on the action (e!.g!. if the recitative shows the character falling in love, the character may sing an aria describing the many ways in which he/she/it/thing loves the other person)!.

Chorus - is a song for a group of people!. The number of singers needn't be large; it could simply be all the characters on stage at once, each singing about their own particular angle on the plot!. Mozart in particular, is famous for his use of finale, in which all the characters singing separate texts can become really chaotic! And finally, the tradition of Mozart's finales is often followed in popular music theatre!.

2) Many operas are in foriegn languages, like Italian!. Opera is all singing, with little or no dialogue that is not sung!. Opera is like telling a story with music!. Musical theatre is more telling a story through dance, words, and song!.
