Question: Any reputable brands of trigger trombones!?
I am in the 9th grade in the band, and my lesson teachers have been telling me that they would highly recommend me getting a trigger trombone to "further advance my playing skills"!. Are there any brands/types of them that you have had a good experience with!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would strongly suggust against getting a "trigger trombone" unless you want to play the bass trombone!. There's a lot of extra tubing just making the horn heavier!. The only other reason to have one, IMHO, is if you can't reach 6th or 7th positions!.

However, to answer your question, Bach 42 series and Conn 88H are the standards!. Both are large bore 0!.547" bore horns - what Ed Kleinhammer calls "Symphonic Tenors" in his must-read book, "The Art of Trombone Playing!." Getzen also makes nice horns, and has a very decent medium bore (0!.525" bore) trigger horn!. A small bore trigger trombone is a toy - the valve will provide too much restriction to acheive good tone!.

I have a King 4B-F (2104F) that's essentially a Conn 88H with a nickle silver outer slide!. The only trombone I have that I use less is my Jupiter Soprano trombone!. 99% of the time, I'm playing my King 3B - marvelous instrument!. I also have the Bach 50B3GO bass trombone (great bass 'bone, too), and a Selman (Chinese eBay "crap") Eb Alto 'Bone that's actually pretty darn cool!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
