Question: Question for musicians!.!.!.!?
how did you get to where you are!?
i'm a sophomore right now, i play clarinet, and i was thinking about becoming a professional musician!. i've been told that i'm pretty talented, and i could probably get to that level!.
i'm in a youth orchestra, i'm about to send in a CD for a competition in april, and i've been talking to my teacher and such about how to get to that professional level!. i really want to go to eastman because
a)it'll be free, because my dad works at the university of rochester and eastman is an affliation off of that
b)it's close by, and it's a really good school!.
however, i've been doing NYSSMA and MCMSA, and i've only gotten from 94's to 96's!.
would those like, affect my chances of getting into a really good music school!?
thanks for reading all of thatWww@QuestionHome@Com

I am a NYSSMA woodwind judge!. Even if your Dad *does* work at U/Roch - you have to GET INTO the school!. You had better have the BEST one you can find (and living near there, should be EASY to find someone incredible)!. The only way I could possibly account for those NYSSMA scores is if you band teacher sent you on Level 6 solos WAAAAY before you are ready - and that is why the score are where they are!. You would need to bring them up to Level 6, HIGH 90s before you are at all competitive - and you need to make All-County, Area All-State, and All-State - and even All-Eastern - to be considered!. You will need great grades, and a KILER audition!. So - you have your work cut out for you in the next year and a half!. I have a student at Eastman now ( vocalist) and he is LOVING it, and doing really well - it is a TOP school in the US, just too bad it is SOOOO cold up there! When our son was taking auditions, he was accepted into several top music schools in the Northeast - but did not want to even AUDITION in Rochester, after freezing his butt of up there for an All-State! He ended up at Temple in Philadelphia!.

I wish you much luck - and LUCKY that you get a free ride!Www@QuestionHome@Com
