Question: Powell Headjoint for a Yamaha flute!?
Okay so I currently have a Yamaha 684H flute with the silver EC cut headjoint!. While I do like how it's always very responsive and has a strong tonal core, I find it quite limiting for dynamics and flexibility!.

I tried a friend's Powell Conservatory flute for a bit this week, it was awesome! I still like my Yamaha flute mechanism better though; more solid!.

So I'm thinking of selling my Yamaha EC cut headjoint so I can get the funds for a Powell headjoint!. But on the other hand, this may sound cheesy but!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.I have a LOT of sentimental value that is with the Yamaha EC cut headjoint!. It helped me get an Outstanding Soloist Award, which convinced my parents into FINALLY letting me continue band through high school after they nearly made me quit!.

So should I suck it up and sell the headjoint despite that I'll miss it!? Or should I keep it and somehow get a Powell headjoint as an extra!?

Where can I find a used Powell headjoint, and what cuts do you recommend!? Around the uhh!.!.!.!.!.!.$500 range would be nice!. I'm sure I can get a used one at that price!. I'm also interested in Burkart, Drelinger, Goosman, and other good headjoints of that type!.

Sorry that my question's so long but I need some input!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You can check the usual flute houses - www!.fluteworld!.com, Phil Unger, Jeff Weissman, Carolyn Nussbaum, J!.L!. Smith!. If you can hold out until August, get yourself to the National Flute Association convention in August in NYC!. www!.nfaonline!.org!. EVERYTHING is there - you can learn a lot, play a lot, etc!. THis is NOT cheap - but worth every penny!. The location cirulte around the US - if you cannot make NY, then check on the website for another location near you - one a year!. There are also local flute clubs - everything on a smaller scale!. NOTHING is a good as the National!.

Once you find the headjoint you intend to use, you should play IT - and forsake the old one!. You can keep in in a drawer, just in case you have remorse about the new purchase, and sell THAT and go back to the original one!. But the WORST thing you can do is A/B them - back and forth!. Your musculature will not be able to truly find the new adjustments that will bring out the best in the new head!. It would be like dating your ex, just in case the new love does not work out!. Done is DONE - move on, fresh thoughts, fresh focus - and the physical adjustment is harder than the mental - at least for headjoints (ooh!)!.

Good luck with our purchase!. You must might fall in love with a whole new flute BODY, too!. That's the worst thing about shopping - you FIND things - and not always what you set out to find !. !.Www@QuestionHome@Com
