Question: What do you do during your practice sessions!? !?
I'm a guitarist, I'll be having another guitarist and a bass player over to play!. I haven't played with other musicians since I first started learning to play, over four years ago!.

What do you do during your band practice!? Do you have an agenda!? Do we swap ideas!? Do we just jam!?

Thanks for sharing, I'm excited but kinda nervous about the whole deal!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

That is a tricky question, because of the variables involved!.
With seasoned musicians, most of the time they will agree on a song to learn before a practice!. Each musician will learn his part on his own, then at a practice session, they will try a quick run through to see what happens!. Then discussions and tweaks will occur!.

With beginning players who don't know each other, it's a little tougher, because you don't really know how good the other guys are, or how much they know or how accurately they may know it!. See if you guys know any common tunes!.!.!.if you do!.!.!.!.give the songs a shot!. If it's close to what it's supposed to be, discuss with each other (nicely)
who did what wrong or what van be improved!. That's called constructive criticism!. All performers must be able to handle that without getting hurt feelings!.
Do not use the word "suck" LOL
after a little critiquing, try it again!.

But at first it may be good just to warm up by "jamming" if you can even agree on what or how you're going to jam!. Common things to do a warm up jam is a 12 bar blues progression!. So both guitarists can get their solo feelings going!. And you can size each other up!.
Do the fast ending solo part to Freebird or something!. you know!.!.!.
G to Bb to C then E F F# G repeat!. and solo your butts off for 10 minutes or so!.

Something simple to warm up!.

If you finally get a "Band" together!. warm up by running thru the songs you know!. Learn one or two new ones!. play those at least 3 times each, then run through your "Set" again adding the 2 new songs to it!.
That way you don't forget the older songs!. When you get a buttload of songs that you can't play all in one practice, rotate the playlist!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

well, i think that first you already have to have some songs that might want to play, and also first see at what level are the other guys playing at!.

other than that, yes jam, but also dont be like, oh i wanna play this, no i wanna play this, and everyone just wants to play something different!. make sure that yall have a song to learn right off the bat!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't have a "band", just am orchestra!. We have 20 minutes of solo warm ups, then we rehearse as an orchestra!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
