I think the guitar makes a difference, but for me, personally, not enough of a difference!. I suck at bar chords, too, no matter how good a guitar is!. I just can't get my index finger to make a decent bar!. I am VERY good at controlling which string I pluck and cope by fingering the heart of the chord and only playing the fingered strings!.

Good for you for downplaying Mr!. Retiredretard! Great name for his answer!. I would guess him to be one of the esteem-stomping showboaters you will find in every jam session who mostly wants to shoot down the competition!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There are three possibilities!. Either your action isn't low enough, your strings are too heavy, or it's simply that you're still learning how to barre correctly!.

Let your teacher play your guitar to see if your action is too high!. That's a simple and inexpensive adjustment if that's the cause!. Try a pack of light gauge or even extra light gauge strings!. Keep practicing and you'll improve; don't let anything stand in the way of your success!. Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

could be the guitar or the strings, could be you!.!.!. try hanging on to the bar chord with a tighter grip, and keep your index finger straight!. If that didn't work, its probably the guitar or the strings!.!.!. I personally play on a $180 piece of crap, use good strings, and it sounds horrible!. I have played other guitars, and it sounds great and is easier to play!. (Which is why I'm getting a new one soon =P) If you get a new guitar I recommend Ovation because their guitars are extremely thin and comfy, without sacrificing too much of the sound value when unplugged!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

at least it's not a $99 dollar fender, but at $200 it may be worth taking to a shop for a set up and some good strings, doesn't usually run more than $40 bucks and makes a big difference, if that doesn't help, you just stink at barre chords for the time being, keep practicingWww@QuestionHome@Com

Why is it that people who can't do something, always want to blame their tools!? I can play barre chords in a $100 wal-mart guitar!.!.!. It's not the guitar!.!.!. I suspect it has to do with being too arrogant to HIRE A TEACHER so they can SHOW YOU HOW TO DO IT and HELP you !.!.!. There is a reason for having a guitar teacher!.!. and that is to LEARN THE BASICS!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

man, yea! some guitars are just firewood!.!.!.!.tune the guitar down a bit to make it easier until you build up the finger strength and such!.

here's a good approach!.!.!.
