Question: Should I get an oboe, or a clarinet!? Do you vibrato on a clarinet!? How about oboe!?
It's just what I'm getting for Christmas!. I currently play the F horn and I want to switch to either oboe or clarinet!. I'm probably gonna get the clarinet, but I really want to know if you vibrato on a clarinet because I was sick of not being able to vibrato on the horn (non vibrato instrument)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would lean towards the clarinet!. You generally do not vibrato on a clarinet!. Oh, it can be done but most of the time it is not done in classical music!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Clarinets are generally less exposed in an orchestra or band, but if you want to play with vibrato, oboe is the way to go!. Clarinets rarely use vibrato, but oboes usually do!. Just as a warning, oboe reeds are pretty expensive, they're around $18 in my school!. Clarinet reeds are around $2!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

An oboe is MUCH more difficult to play proficiently than a clarinet!. If don't have an obsessive personality I suggest avoiding it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
