Question: How do you play the F chord on guitar without it sounding "plucky"!?
Here is the way I am attempting the F chord:

1!. index finger on the first 2 strings from the bottom on the first fret!.
2!. middle finger is on the 3rd string from the bottom on the 2nd fret!.
3!. finger #3 is on the 4th string on the 3rd fret!.

As I play the chord, I test each string to make sure it sounds clear!. What happens is that some of the strings sound "plucky"!. If I strum just the first 2 strings, it sounds fine but only if I do not put any other fingers down on the fret board!. As soon as I put my 2nd finger down on the 3rd string 2nd fret, the index finger strings become pluck-sounding!.
I have tried a zillion different ways to position my index finger on the first 2 strings!. Sometimes I get it and sometimes I don't!.
How do you position your index finger for this chord!?

Hi Herm

What you need to do is curve your fingers and always always make sure that your hand is parallel to the fingerboard!.
This way, your fingers will automatically bend giving you the correct angle for that F chord!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The problem you face is the same that all guitarists have done in the beginning stage!. You will have to train your ring finger to stay in place while strengthening it!. The ring finger is especially hard to train and to build up the strength necessary to form the "mother of all chords"--the F chord!."

Stay focused on that problem and it will eventually smooth out for you!. Be patient, but focused!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
