Position:Home>Performing Arts> I want to learn to play piano, but I can't afford a piano... would it be ok

Question: I want to learn to play piano, but I can't afford a piano!.!.!. would it be ok to start with a keyboard instead!?
So I was thinking about getting a keyboard instead of a piano (since I can't even afford one), but I don't know how many keys I need!.
Would it be ok to start out with a 54 key and maybe get a better one later on!?
Or should I just hold off until I can afford one with 88 keys!?
Do I need one with 88 keys to learn to play!?

Thanks =)Www@QuestionHome@Com

You can start with 54 keys and get a better one later on, but it's better just to save for a little longer and get an 88 key keyboard!. It must be touch sensitive or else when you try to play on a regular grand piano your timing will be off!.

I play piano but I hardly ever play on a grand (or mini-grand) piano!. What is really cool about some keyboards is they have a metronome on it, pedals, and you can attach headphones and not bother your family!. I would hold off for one with 88 keys if you want to study piano and get really good!. Learning the basics on an instrument the most like a real piano is best!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Don't listen to anyone that tells you that you need 88 keys!.
i started off with a regular 1990's keyboard and that didn't have the soft and loud on it!.
It was just a keyboard,
When you start off you just need to learn the basics of C,D,E,F, and G
then you just need A, and B
Maybe you would only need 36 but 54 keys would be fine!.
It also depends on the song!.
If you start with a level 1 book you should be learning how to do happy birthday to you and that only takes about 36 or less keys!. and so you don't really need that many!.
A piano is a piano, so its ok to start off small!.
Heck! i did and now i play on a bigger piano at school!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You need the full 88 keys in order to get the feel of a piano!. You also need (if you decide on a keyboard) one that has touch sensitive keys!. On a regular piano, the sound that is produced is (louder, softer) depending upon the pressure on the keys!. On most electronic keyboards, you press the key and you get the same sound no matter if you strike the key softly or harder!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
