Look up lessons on youtube, there are some extremely helpful video lessons for beginners!. Ask friends who play to show you some basic technique and stuff!. As for tips and bad habits!.!.!. Remember to always play with the very tips of your fingers, keep your thumb on the back of the neck (except when you need to mute other strings,) and remember!.!.!. Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent!. Don't start incessantly practicing some technique and drilling it into your head unless you're sure that it's the CORRECT technique!. It really, really sucks to have to relearn something that you taught yourself wrong!. Trust me, I've been there!. Good luck :]

edit
Internet tabs are not always wrong, they are often slightly off, but there's really nothing wrong with teaching yourself other people's music through internet tabs!. However, buying official music or fakebooks are always a better idea if you want to learn the correct techniques and exact correct notes/chords!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

ok, your gonna get a lot of people telling you to learn by internet tabs!. DON'T!. all internet tabs are wrong, remember that!. i would recommend going to a website like www!.chordbook!.com because it can teach you every single chord and scale and key in existence and they are all correct!. it can also help you a lot with musical theory!. then once you want to start learning songs i would go to either youtube and search for guitar lessons or www!.licklibrary!.com because you can find guitar lessons there which are 100% correct!. be warned if you use youtube though, because all the lessons are not always right!. check the video comments and read peoples feedback to get an idea of what the lesson is like before you learn from it!. then eventually once you get good enough you will be able to learn songs by ear!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
