electric guitars open up an array of sound options from distortion to phasers to flanger!. plus you can get a wah pedal and a nice amp and play real loud when nobody is home!.

if you get an electric guitar the next step (assuming you know all the basic chords) is to learn scales!.

pentatonic major/pentatonic minor
harmonic minor
etc!.!.!.
then you'll have learned to play notes (anywhere on the guitar) that are in harmony with the 2nd guitar players chord!. thats the first step in learning soloing and learning to train your ear to knowing what chord is what just by hearing it!.

Plus electric guitars have more range of things you can do to emphasize sound!.!.!.from wammy bars to sustaining a chord for long periods of time!.

first electric guitar i got was an epiphone les paul and a marshal half stack amp!. kinda followed in jimmy pages image >!.<Www@QuestionHome@Com

The day you stop learning on guitar they best be burying you or it's time to put the guitar up as you've lost your love for it!. You will always be learning as long as you play guitar!.

If you can afford two guitars by all means get an electric!. They are have the same basics but are very different animals when i comes to playing them!. Playing both improves your overall guitar skill!. Acoustics with the higher action and higher string tension will make the electric so fast!. Electrics are not forgiving on accidentals so playing an electric will help you with your precision!. Techniques that work well on on but not on the other style of guitar will expand your playing ability!. Likewise sometimes one guitar is more appropriate than the other!. Hard to lug an electric along to a park to just jam, but it's also a whole lot easier to Rock out on an electric than an acoustic!.

Keep learning progressively more difficult songs!. Work on your timing especially!. In music time is everything!. If you don't own one get a metronome!. It will help you develop your timing!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

A guitar is a guitar!. Electric, Acoustic, and Bass all follow the same foundation!.

Playing styles will differ, but not any of the chords!.

Acoustic guitars tend to use a majority of the strings more often, while an electric sticks with 1-3 a lot!.

also if you want to solo and do leads on the electric you need to learn modes which is the same as learning scales!. But a much more efficient way to do so!.

start playing with classical guitars with nylons, and stick with those!. Much more impressive than other guitars!.!.!. i'm 16!.!. i've been playing for 10 years now!.!.!. i know a thing or two!.!.

i play all sorts of guitars, perform!.!.!.you name it
classical is more than a foundation!.!. its a way of learning to play that opens up the gateways to anything!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Electric guitar is played differently than acoustic!. You should be able to barre chords easily!. You also should be comfortable playing with a pick!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

well, there are other techniques that are easily and more often played on the electric guitar (i!.e!. tapping, power chords, etc!.), but it all depends on your style!.!.!.
