I believe that it is important for everyone to be able to enjoy the fine arts!. One of the ways to achieve this is by learning an instrument!. At what point they get involved is dependent on their mental and physical development!.
A musical instrument usually teaches a person self confidence!. It gives them an outlet for creativity or even frustration!. It also teaches learning methods!. I could go on and on, but really if they learn to enjoy the arts!. That is great and yes that is important!.
As far as forcing someone to learn!. I am not sure where this fits into the question!. Do we force children to learn (Math, Spelling, History etc!.) Some educational programs treat art education equal to the other studies!. It is not an extra or a minor subject!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I love music and could not imagine my life without it, however, to be forced to learn an instrument would be traumatic for me, I have no natural ability and could never learn to read music, it was just not something I could do, and no one is good at everything!. So while I think that to encourage a child to try and learn if they have a natural aptitude is a very positive thing, I do not think that every child should be forced to play, because some just can't do it, and there is nothing wrong with that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

YES! Music is a great thing to be in and do, and it gives children a higher self-esteem, because they can do something a lot of people can't!.

Music helps with math, reading and creativity, too!
But if they're not into it, don't' force it on them, music is a practice thing, if they don't want to play it they wont' practice it, or won't like to practice so its just a waste of time!.
also I would consider giving them voice lessons too!. Singing is like a musical instrument, just with voice!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes!. Music is an artistic form of math (we had a whole chapter on it in Calculus class), plus, it helps with a number of other subjects!. It also acts as an emotional outlet so if the child is having problems with one area of their lives, it helps them to handle it!. Music as an activity in which you use a higher percentage of your brain than any other one, but I can't remember the exact percentage!.

I think that an instrument has more benefits than singing because you're forced to read the music and learn music theory!. In my college music theory classes, the instrumentalists had a much easier time than the voice majors because they have to use theory every day!.

Don't start them too early, they should be able to read first, or they won't have the concentration level needed to learn an instrument!. If you're thinking about a wind instrument, kids don't have the lung capacity to play one of those until about 9-11 years old (3rd or 4th grade), and that's pushing it!. 5th or 6th grade is better!.

As for forcing the child to learn piano or other instrument, you're the adult!. They do as you say!. I would do a minimum of two years because that's the point where you start getting past the basics and into the fun stuff!. If they still hate it once they start playing the "real" music, then let them drop it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If the child wants to learn an instrument, let him!. If not, don't force him!.

But the benefits of learning to play a musical instrument is that it gives the child a sense of purpose and excitement to be able to make music!. Studies have shown that kids who play instruments score higher on reading and math then non-musical kids!.

My cousins who are 8 and 10 play piano, and the 10-year-old is in band!. They seem to like it!. I started getting into music when I was 10 or so!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think so!. They can try out many different instruments and see if they like any of them!. They say that kids who play an instrument usually do better in school!. If they come to find out that music just ins't for them, it wont hurt!. Todays teenagers are relying a lot on music to help them get through the day, which is a good thing!. It also teaches them responsibility by caring for their instrument and practicing!.

I really hope this helps!!! Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes absolutely!. Music, and science are linked in the brain!. The same processes for learing both subjects are used!. I am in the healthcare field, and in high school I played the flute!. A well rounded curriculum for a child is very important and effective!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, I wouldn't force them if they didn't want to!.
But seeing as I play 2 instruments and am in a choir!.!.
I enjoy it, personally!. Sometimes it helps them with reading skills!. It's sort of an opinion-mattered question!.
