It's a soprano clarinet!. The correct name can be either "Bb Soprano Clarinet" or "Soprano Clarinet in Bb"

The full family is:

Sopranino - Ab
Soprano - Eb, D, C, Bb, A
Basset Clarinet - A (a soprano in A with extended range to low C)
Basset Horn - F (an alto range clarinet with extended range to low C)
Alto - Eb
Bass - C, Bb
Contra-alto - EEb
Contra-bass - BBb
Octo Contra-alto - EEEb (very rare)
Octo Contra-bass - BBBb (very rare)

There is an instrument in G (alto range) called a Turkish Clarinet that is used in ethnic music and there is a related instrument called a Taragoto used in Hungarian music!.

Bb is the 'normal' clarinet that most beginner start on! Bb is the key that the instrument is in! If you play a Bb on the piano it would sound like a C on the Clarinet that's why its called a Bb! Confusing yes In short it means that if you want to play with any instrument in C like piano, Flute etc then your music would need to be in a different key!. You could play from the same music page!. If you did It wouldn't sound very nice!

There are many other types of clarinet! A, Eb, C are all different types If you are thinking about taking up the Clarinet don't worry about these types just yet!. These are mainly used in orchestral work different pieces of music require different clarinetsWww@QuestionHome@Com

Its just called the Bb clarinet!. Or its just called the clarinet!. Its the only one in the clarinet family thats just called the clarinet, because its the most common!. The rest are called by what they are, Eb clarinet, Bass Clarinet, etc!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's a clarinet tuned to the key of Bb, (a semitone below C)!.

You can get clarinet's in any key you want though chances are, you'd have to get them custom-made!.

Bb is the most common though, and is generally what most tutors teach on!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
