Well, being first a trumpet player, then moving on to the mellophone, then moving on to the french horn, I would have to say that it's not all that bad as long as you have a good ear, good technical skills from trumpet, and discipline!.

It is strange at first to go from a right-handed fingering system to a left-handed system, but once you get the hang of it, it's cake!.

Something to keep in mind though about the french horn is that IT IS ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT INSTRUMENTS TO PLAY!. It is very complex in many aspects, a few of those including the Bb/F trigger (you can literally change partials by holding a trigger down with your left thumb) and how it has SO many intervals and alternate fingerings for almost EVERY note; this is where a good ear is required!.

It can also be hard to tune because that is the purpose of your right hand being inserted into the bell; if your hand is in more, the pitch goes flat and if it's out more, the pitch goes up!.!.!.complicated!

I hope this helped you out! If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me!

I here it is very hard to learn!. But then again you might catch on quicker since it is somewhat similar to the trumpet!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
