Question: Are the higher notes on a piano affected by the right foot pedal as well!?
There is a second hand piano I saw on the weekend and really liked it!. But the pedal that holds the notes for longer does not work on the very high notes!. When I looked inside the piano, I could see that the piano was set up like this!. But on my Aunt's Piano it does effect the higher notes!. The owner said that it is not meant to effect these higher notes!.

Please, any advice would be appreciated!. I really want to but this piano!. Thanks people!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Generally speaking the notes in the high end of the piano do not have dampers!. I would have to see your aunts piano to see about those dampers up there!. I have tuned exactly one piano that had dampers all the way up!. That was a 9'6 " Boesendorfer grand!. even the steinway concert grand does not have dampers on the high end!.
The main reason for this is that they are not needed!. Those short strings do not vibrate long enough for a damper to be needed!.
A lot of pianos have holes in the action rail that make it look like the dampers should go all the way up!. But that is because the machine that drills the holes in the rail drills a hole for both the damper flange and the mallet butt flange and they don't bother to make a machine that only drills one of the holes just for the flanges at the top!.
I personally have never seen an upright piano with dampers all the way up!. and in 35 years of tuning pianos I think I have seen just about everything!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hi Woozy

Just add the damper material at the end of the damper in the piano!. Some players sometimes remove the dampening materia so that the high notes are always on sustain sort of speak LOL!.

The damper acts like a mute sort of!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
