Question: For those who have auditioned, or who are at Performing Arts schools!. (Girls especially)!?
A few questions, i'm thinking of auditioning for next year (for the Three Year acting course), and would love some details!. :)

Whats the best age to audition!?
Do I NEED extra qualifications in Singing, Speaking and Dancing to get in!?
(Ive got Advanced grades in dance (Ballet, Tap and Jazz), a grade 4 speaking exam at merit, but no singing exams)
How much harder is it to audition as a girl!?
What are the best places, in your opinion, to go to!?
What do the auditions entail: Is it just you, or are there many of you together!?

And anything else you think would be useful, just tell me!.
Im completely clueless as to what happens and what i need to heighten my chancesWww@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
16 is good if you are exceptionally talented and mature, otherwise I'd say 18 so you've got some A levels and a bit more life experience!. Qualifications are not necessary - they judge you on what they see at the audition!.

Auditions tend to consist of a jazz class and a ballet class, then solos individually!. Most colleges will ask for two contrasting songs and two contrasting monologues(eg!. one Shakespeare, one modern), and some ask for a short dance as well!. The dance is generally more about performance than technique!.

It's harder for a girl to be successful because there are so many more of us, but there's nothing you can do about that!. Just remember, when it looks overwhelming and there are 300 girls auditioning for 30 places, that they are all auditioning EVERYWHERE!. You might even make friends with people purely from seeing them at multiple auditions!.

the best dance colleges I know of are:

Laine Theatre Arts
Performer's College
Bird College
Stella Mann College
Millenium Dance 2000
The Urdang Academy
London Studio Centre

and for more of a bias towards singing/acting:

Mountview
Guildford Conservatoire
Arts Educational
London School of Musical Theatre
ALRA(Academy of Live and Recorded Arts)

There are many more, but those are off the top of my head!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think any age is okay to audition
i don`t think you need extra qualifications to get in
Its not really hard to audition
just be yourself and just do what your good at
There are many good places to go to but it also depends if you like the places
When i auditioned i was with a group in front of three judges but i auditioned at my school because my school is basically a performing arts school!. Just be yourself do the best you can and most of all just do what you want and love to do!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

OMGSH - I AM IN THE EXACT SAME SITUATION AS YOU!. I would love some information on this I would love a carrer in Singing and Acting :DWww@QuestionHome@Com

im no longer sure what are the best unis as i studied 10 years ago but the obvious ones are RADA!. Central School of Speech and Drama, Manchester Met and LIPA, there is also one in Edinburgh but i cant remember the name !.

anything extra like your dance qualifications will defiantly come in handy so remember to put that down on your application form!. the fact that you have no singing qualifications should not matter because you are there to learn these things!.

you will be given full details of what you need to do by each institution, a lot of them will charge you £25 for the audition!.

the main format is

one classical text and one modern text, which will be done in front of the other students applying!.

one song - bring the music sheet with you or a dance peace - depending on your specialism

group excise's

and an interview

more girls do seem to apply than men, but the hardest part i found was trying to find a decent monologue for a girl!.

good luck, hope this helps
