Do NOT use a *band method* book to begin the flute! Their choices of beginning notes are based solely on what will work in the first ensemble, NOT what is good for a flutist!. Go to www!.fluteworld!.com and look over the beginner book there - I would start with the Trevor Wye beginning book!.

You should DEFINITELY have a real flute teacher start this child - there are far too many things that are critical in the first lessons, that, if ignored, will lead to frustration later!. A good teacher teach is worth every dollar, and a poor teacher is a waste of every penny!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Go to a local Music Store and buy Essential Elements 2000!. It is an awesome book that comes with 2 CD's!. A computer one and a TV one!. There are songs on it that teach you breathing control, note coordination, and pitch!. The songs have numbers and on the CD for the computer, let's say you are on number 67 on the book, go to song number 67 on the computer and you can play along, record yourself, and much more!!! But to record yourself and get an assessment grade, you have to have a microphone for your computer!. I have this book and it's amazing, best one out there! Trust me, I know what i'm talking about, I'm a flute player who used that book and it's taught me all the notes, breath control, and the meaning of music!.

P!.S!. Have fun with flute! It's a beautiful instrument and it's easy to play!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
