Hi Elizabeth!.!.!.!.

First off!.!.!.!. DO NOT GRIND DOWN THE FRETS!!! That is a very good way to ruin a perfectly good instrument!.

Now!.!. on to the problem!. You say that the strings are buzzing against the lower frets!. Im assuming what you mean near the tuning keys!. If thats the case, the strings would also be hitting the frets near the end of the fretboard by the body of the guitar!. If this is the case, then the truss rod needs loosened!. If the strings are hitting the frets more near the middle of the neck, then it needs tightened!. Now!. !.heres a BIG problem with what youve already done!. While its ok to raise and lower the saddles just a touch, any time you move the saddle adjustment back and forth you've just thrown the guitar out of calibration!. It takes a trained professional to calibrate guitars of any type!. String changes can also cause "fret buzz!." Going with a lighter or heavier gauge than what the guitar was set up in the factory for can make a big difference in the tension on the neck!.

My suggestion is to stop immediately trying to adjust this yourself and take the bass to a guitar shop and let them do it!. (Not to Guitar Center!.!. they dont employ techs)
By the way, ive known a few people over the years that have just about destroyed guitars trying to do their own adjustments and set-ups on them!. Most common is breaking the end of the truss rod off inside of the neck!. Best to spend about 40-60 bucks now and have it done by a pro rather than NOT have a bass!.

Hope this has helped, and good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Top Ten Solutions To This Problem From davetheguitarplayer:
1!. don't pluck 'em so hard
2!. grind down the frets, u can use a magic marker to show where they used to be, if u can't otherwise tell!.!.
3!. change the action by:
a!. replacing the nut with a bigger one!.
b!. raise, or replace the bridge
c!. do both!.
4!. switch to lighter gauge strings (i like to use uke strings)!.
5!. don't do anything: the buzzing sounds cool!.
6!. give the bass to a retard friend (drummers don't know the difference), take a tax deduction, and buy a good bass!.
7!. download good bass tracks, run 'em through yore amp and sorta "lipsync" to 'em!. i've tried this b4, and the band said "wow, you've really been practicing, dtgp"!. girls like it too, esp!. the magic that happens when yuo don't pluck the strings but the sound still comes out!
8!. just play a real guitar run through a pedal set on "octave"
9!. try singing the bass lines!.
10!. doesn't matter- bass frequencies are to low for the human ear to pick up anyway!. bass players are there just to look cool- so make sure you do!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You probably need a truss rod adjustment, but if you don't know what you're doing, you shouldn't try to adjust it yourself!.

Take it to a guitar shop and let a qualified repair person do it for you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
