Question: Can I plug in my Marshall practice amp to just a cabinet!?
I have this tiny 40w Marshall G10 MK!.II practice amp, and I kinda need a bigger amp, so I was wondering if I could just plug in my practice amp into just the cab, without having to sell an arm and a leg for an amp head!. Because I heard that Jack White plugs in a Fender Twin Reverb to a bunch of Silvertone cabs, and so I wanted to know if I could do the same thing!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

you can do it, provided the ohms match up so that you don't overload the capacity of the amp!.!.!.!.!.

but you aren't going to get the wall of sound your looking for and will prematurely kill your amp!.!.!.!.1 cab won't have that much effect but 2 or more will!.

you don't need that much to get the sound you're looking for!.!.!.i've been playing live for over 20 years in venues from 50 seats to 5000 seats and i've always run a 50 watt marshall with one 12 and a 60 watt peavey with two 12's and it is all i've ever needed!.

i experimented with running each through a marshall 4-12 cab and also with running them both through 1 4-12 cab and it never really made a big difference in the sound!.

running two smaller amps in stereo now is what i have found to get the best sound either live on stage or at home!.!.!.!.!.i run the marshall (same one after 20 years) on right, the peavey (same 1 as well) on the left and have a little 15 watt vox setup as a center channel monitor directly behind me onstage

running the smaller amps at a higher level will get you much better sound at higher power levels than overdriving a single amp into a cab or multi-cab setup!.

but, having said all that, the 40 watt marshall should push a 2-12 cab adequately!.

i would be willing to bet this jack white guy you're talking about is running that reverb with a line level output into a board or a splitter and running through a bunch of rack-mount amps to those silvertones!. the twin is only 85 watts!.!.!.!.it isn't going to push alot of of speakers by itself

i will add also that you can recreate the stereo effect and larger sound footprint i'm doing by getting a 2-12 cab, and a 20 foot cable, placing it on one side and the 40 watt on the other side!.!.!.!.you don't have to just set the 40 watt on top of the cab so it will look 'cool'!.!.!.!.spread them out and you'll have a bigger sound footprint and get the larger sound you are seeking!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

no, i dont think you can, because your marshall isnt powerful enough to pawer up a cab, plus it would be pretty poor sound quality, it would probably lack alot of tone, and there wouldnt be enough highs, etc!. i tried once, and i was using a 120w crate!. if i were you, id sell your marshall, and buy a bigger combo, like a 120w-150w!. if your in a band, that should be a perfect size, because most venues mic the amps anyways, so size doesnt matter that much!.
