Question: What other instruments should I play besides oboe!?
Hello, I am an eighth grader who has been playing the oboe for a year!. I've been researching on scholarships for future college reference and learned that although the oboe is a scholarship instrument in itself, I could be more valuable to the group I play for!. In that case, I was hoping any of you could list some of the instruments I should also begin learning in addition to the oboe!. So far, I thought of the English horn and the oboe d'amore!. By the way, I also play flute and already beginning to take up piccolo!. Any suggestions are highly appreciated, thank you in advance!Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's wonderful that you want to learn to play the whole family of the oboe!. This should come in handy in about 10-5 years, if you should want to audition for a position in a philharmonic orchestra!. But right now, since you have been playing oboe only for a year, you should stick to it and focus on practicing this one!. After a few years, as you get better at it, then expand your area!.

My advice, learn an instrument that you like how it sound!. It's much more rewarding to play than for a cause!. (I'm not saying it's bad to play for a scholarship!.) But play for the sake of playing!. That's how I picked my instrument: the violin!. I can say from personal experience, that if you hate the instrument you play, it will not be worth it!. That why I quit piano!.

You should focus on a primary instrument, but if you play other instruments; those look good too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

congrats on learning many instruments!. Learning another instrument is really a personal choice!. To get a schlorship you mainly just have to play one thing really well!. Others are bonus but honestly at your age I would just play what you want and focus on fundementals!. Don't learn music with getting schlorships in mind!. Just learn music to play as well as u can in my opinion the rest can fall into place later!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
