Question: Buzzing guitar string!!?
Hi, i was just wondering what to do about my guitar because whenever i play the D-string on the 5th 6th or 7th (mainly 7th) frets it makes a loud buzzing noise!. would that be because the action is to high or low!. Please help!.

Hey JB

That would indicate that the neck is slightly bowd and you would have to make a truss rod adjustment!. If you hold the first and 12th fret , the string in the middle shold have at least 1/16" clearance!.

The way you are stating it, it must be touching!. So turn the truss rod 1/2 turn counter-clockwise!. Then press the 1st and 12 th fret again!. If the string still touches the fingerboard, turn another 1/4 turn!. Do this until you get the 1/16" clearance!.

That should take care o the buzzing guaranteed!. You can even lower the action from the bridge once you have adjusted the neck!.

Note that you willhave to lossen the 2 middle strings (3 and 4) before adjusting!. Then, retune them and check to see if the string is cleared from the fingerboard at the 7th fret!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The fretboard may be off center (still an issue with my bass E string) if not it could be too loose!. Check it with a tuner!. If it comes up in standard EDAGBE tuning then get your board checked out at like Guitar Center or a music shop!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
