Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Its not a genuine Stradivarius!. We know this immediately because it was made in Romania -- and Antonio Stradivarius never lived or worked in Romania!.

OTOH, its not a "fake" since no one who knows anything about violins would be fooled by it for a second!. Its a copy!.

Its actually a very common, and very respected tradition, for lesser-known violin makers to pattern their violins after well-known instruments built by famous makers, like Stradivarius, Maggini, Amati, Guarnerius, etc!. Then the maker of the copy puts a label inside identifying the violin as being a copy of "Antonius Stradivarius Cremonenfis Faciebat Anno 1709" or whatever (IOW, its a copy of a Strad made in Cremona Italy in 1709)!.

Its believed that all of the original violins made by Antonio Stradivarius have been accounted for, and their whereabouts and present ownership are known to violin dealers!. I suppose its barely possible that there might be a previously-unknown Strad violin out there that's never been discovered, but your violin isn't it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Fake, I see these come up every so often on Craig's and ebay, if you are looking at buying it it is a fake, all the real ones are fetching 6 figures at least and are highly guarded!. keep google-ing and you will find out all about them, i came across two in the past year, fake fake fake!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
